L.I.M.U bands - The power of just-us

‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful and committed individuals can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has’  Margaret Mead.

‘Those who cannot change their minds, cannot change a thing’ Bernard Shaw

Social justice is created when we expand our ability to realise greater potential whatever community we live in. Through our work to help address sanitation and sustainability issues, we learnt that the two greatest obstacles to changing human behaviour are people's past habits and a belief that as an individual their actions cannot make a difference. This scarcity mindset, which inhibits our ability to change our mind is just as relevant at home when it comes to impacting our mental health and well being.

So many of us accept the myth that we do not have what it takes to create what we want, when in truth, humans have something uniquely powerful to free themselves. We have a creative ability to choose and change our thoughts. Our collaboration with I-India to nurture former street youths into social entrepreneurship reminds us that we can transform any situation when we choose to change the way we see things. Rather than choosing to see hopelessness, slumwear108 products are purposely designed to demonstrate the immense beauty and gifts within our darkness. When Thomas Edison famously remarked ‘I haven’t failed, I just found 1000 ways that won’t work’, this is surely the essence of creative problem solving.

Less.I.More.Us

The LIMU band is a beautiful reminder of what we have in common with each other. Every human, regardless of income, race, education, cultural background, and gender has the ability to be creative, we can choose to change the way we see things. From our experiences through The Possibility Project, we have seen that when individuals come together and choose to improve each other’s lives from a space of creativity, this becomes the greatest spark for transformational change. The LIMU also embodies an essential key for greater well being, you cannot put one on by yourself, you need someone else to help you along!

‘Remember that everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something and has lost something. We are One’ ~H. Jackson Brown Jr.

People often remark to us that maybe the communities in Jaipur are more positive because their lives are relatively simple. But, it’s their solutions to life’s problems that are simple, not their lives. We have worked as a creative community to build Sparrow Sanitation, nurturing both changes in habits and a belief that the individual can make a difference. We are always grateful to share our journey into the creative mindset through our engagements and products. Although creative thinking seeds everything we do, sales of our L.I.M.U bands and slumwear108 products help to grow our work with others.
